What to believe and what to ignore? That is the question I am asking myself all of the time. News changes. The way of receiving the news, the way it is presented, and the form in which it is brougth to you. Luckily there is infotainment, a news form which brings you the news in a entertaining way. That’s a relief!
Yesterday I was watching a video from Jon Stewart’s Daily Show (An entertaining news show from America presented by Jon Stewart) about Syria. While I was watching the episode it came to me that there are many different news sites and channels to choose from. Besides that, they nowadays do not only spread facts, but mainly arguments and opinions. I guess many people will not see through these arguments and opinions and will just believe what is told to them. People who want to form a true image about the news, will have to watch multiple news channels.
On the other hand The Daily Show is entertaining but gives different opinions from different news channels. They do bring the news in a funny way. However I do doubt the depth of their news items but they give a refreshing image. Which is necessary after people have watched to certain news channels like Fox.
Sometimes the news on television is starting to become more of a talkshow than a proper 8 ‘0clock news channel. To refer to the Daily Show episode I was watching, there was a fragment of the Fox News channel. On the Fox channel an “expert” talked about the Syria topic and ,she was an advocate of military intervention in Syria, she really said this: “This is the least best option. We’re going to kill civilians who will be killed anyway!” This is of course not factual news. The “expert” in this case just tells what she thinks is going to happen and not what she knows what is going to happen. Especially in this case where everything that America or Russia does is taken very serious and it is very hard to make a decision and bring it out to the world where it is unknown how the society will react.
Therefore people get a disturbed image of what is happening in the world. They form the opinion and image which was created by the news-anchors and their companions. Luckily there is the internet, where you can find factual news too. It is a place everybody around the world can share his or her opinion and create a total image of the news. Of course the internet is not only outstanding and perfect but also has a lot of crap on it. For example on this news site where I was at from The Sun at first glance it looks just like a normal news page. However when you scroll down your eyes are loaded with unnecessary news!
On the other hand, infotainment can also be very funny and entertaining. It is not only bad and a sickening of the mind like some people think. It can help you to make all the bad news a little less worse in your head. Furthermore by reading or watching infotainment you are creating a wider image of the world by having more input. I wonder if there are nowadays still people who only read the newspaper and do not watch tv, listen to the radio, or browse on the web. I would be deligthed to speak with them and see what their view is on the world.
Nevertheless my opinion is that we should be able to all contribute and read what we want. If that is not possible there will be no way that legit news is granted! Luckily in this country and many countries around us we are able to write free to read and write infotainment. I think that infotainment has grown to one of the most important and biggest news sources around. Without infotainment the media and news-sites would not exist anymore. Infotainment is probably the most lucrative news sort out there right know. Probably because it is the most popular.
All by all infotainment has positive and negative sides. The positive side meaning that you can create a wider and bigger image of the world and what is going on in the world we live in. Contradictly the negative side, there is also a lot of crap out there which is interfering with the real image we have of the world. Therefore my advice; do read, listen, and watch TV which contains infotainment, but only after you have watched the regular 8 o’clock news so you can compare these two and form your own view. Hopefully you have learned something from my column you will follow me the coming years in which I hope to be productive
