Like
mentioned above, on December 12th 2012 the government agreed with the Mali
Mission, however the SP (Socialist Party), the PVV (Freedom Party), and the
PvdD (Animal Rights Party) opposed. The SP claimed that humanitarian support
was much better than military support and Harry van Bommel (SP) said that the
element of humanitarian support was missing in the Mali United Nations mission.
The PVV said that it was not the task of the Dutch military to help the UN this
time but that Algeria or Morocco should help. The members of parliament of the Second
Chamber thought this to be quite peculiar because Muslim terror is one of the
main priorities of the PVV and they
could not understand why the PVV did not take the opportunity to fight Muslim
extremism this time.
Furthermore
there was the problem of the military suits. The uniforms that are produced in
the Netherlands were too expensive for the military. Therefore they ordered the
uniforms in China, which were a lot cheaper. However the Chinese suits are very
fire sensitive. The chairman of the VBM (Union for Military and Civil Defence Personnel)
stated that if a roadside bomb would
explode an uniform which is inflammable in 2 minutes (Chinese) or 5 minutes (Dutch)
could make an enormous difference. The weirdest thing is that the American army
buys their uniforms in the Netherlands because the Dutch uniforms are one of the best.
All
together, the Mali mission will be one of the biggest current UN mission. There
are multiple countries involved and the mission target is to gain back order????
and prevent chaos in the failed state of Mali, a nation that is totally being ripped
apart. I do hope that the fighting will reduced to a minimum and that the
mission will be executed as safely as possible for the civilians in Mali, who
are already the victims of this situation.
