The
last couple of weeks the tension between Ukraine and Russia has risen to an
extreme height. The civil war in the East of Ukraine and the pressure that is
laid upon both sides is huge. Russia is being sanctioned by the European Union
while Russia boycotts our vegetable market.
It
all seemed to be going the right way until the trucks came to the border of
Ukraine, all the trucks would have to be checked on military material. Putin
claimed that this was a strategic uphold of the Ukraine government. While on
the other hand the Ukrainian government does not want Russia to support the
separatists with weapons or any other material.
Finally
there was some movement of trucks crossing the border a couple of days ago.
They moved further into Ukraine. However yesterday a bunch of trucks crossed
the border without any checks or permission from the Ukraine government. Should
Ukraine stop the trucks or should they be happy and accept the humanitarian
convoy send by Russia?
Of
course there is something to say for both sides. The Washington Post claims
that the trucks entering Ukraine is a 'direct invasion'. What is said in this
article is that Russia has entered Ukraine with 130 trucks without the
permission of the Ukraine government. Ukraine has of course full rights over
its own borders and another country is not directly allowed to cross these borders
without permission.
On
the other hand, Russia is trying to help the people who are stuck in Lugansk
with sending these goods. News-site Quartz published an article which
claims that Vladimir Putin is buying time for the separatists with the bringing
in of the so-called Aid-Convoy. But then Russia is still sending in
humanitarian aid even though it might be under different reasons then they
say.
Tensions
between east and west have not been a common thing for a long time in Europe.
Economically and politically we were working more and more the last two
decades, these bonds have now been broken it seems.
Let's
just hope this situation will not go out of control any further.
